Tour Overview

Ngamba Island is located 23km southeast of Entebbe in Lake Victoria. Ngamba Island sanctuary is home to over 40 orphaned or rescued chimpanzees who are unable to return to the wild. The sanctuary was founded in 1998 and is managed and taken care of by the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust.

Detailed itinerary

Set off from Kampala after an early breakfast at 7:00am to be it time for the 9:00am boat ride to Ngamba island.

Upon arrival at the Island, we will be ushered to the visitor’s center where we will be introduced to the project, it is history, residents, and their plight. We will then have a personal orientation by a chimpanzee caregiver and then we will view as well as, take part in the feeding of the chimps from the viewing platform. We will see how the chimps excitedly try to gain the attention of those feeding them to receive food.

After the feeding, we will then enjoy our lunch on-site before going for a swim on the equator while those who are not so enthusiastic about swimming can enjoy beach games like volleyball and sunbathing. At 4:00pm, we will go to visit a neighboring fishing village which is on a nearby Island.
We will then have our boat ride back to the mainland and then drive back to Kampala.
